A seminar for memorial education teachers and instructors and for cooperating institutions

Remembrance Education – Heroic Imagination Project – an educational project of the Bubny Memorial of Silence

The concept of the Bubny Memorial of Silence is among other things based on recognition of the fact that the Holocaust is an historical memento and milestone that had a formative effect on modern society in the second half of the twentieth century, especially with regards to the need to find a common code for elimination of the risk that mass murder would be repeated in the name of “higher interests”, but in reality in the service of particular, ideological, and at their core hateful attitudes.

In this project, the Bubny Memorial of Silence intends to merge the historical experience of the Holocaust with the methodology of the Heroic Imagination Project (HIP) and to utilize the clear connection between historical events that led to the global tragedy of the Holocaust and the present day, more precisely negative elements that could lead to this situation repeating itself.

Against the Normalization of Evil in Society - From Today to the Past and Back to the Present Day is an educational programme that has been created in cooperation with Professor Philip Zimbardo’s Heroic Imagination Project, which strives to inspire and prepare “ordinary” people for the role of “everyday heroes” and includes examples of surprising acts of heroism in extreme situations. The seminar will conclude with an interactive model hour of instruction.

In cooperation with the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, the US Embassy in Prague, and several cultural institutions that are part of the EUNIC network, a need arose to share some methodologies, approaches, and examples of best practice through a seminar.
