What does it mean to put your “body on the line”? What role does courage and the ability to forge one’s own way play in any kind of creative activity? The works of artists, writers, composers, and other individuals often invite us into their own narratives, and authenticity is valued, whether it mediates beauty, joy, or desperation. Reactions may take some time to arrive and may be quite different, but an original creator always puts their body on the line.
This exhibition, held on the occasion of the 70 th birthday of world-renowned writer and illustrator Petr Sís, deals with the topic of “freedom” and the 30 th anniversary of the events of 1989, one reason why it has been conceived as a labyrinth. Its design is inspired by the author’s books, and viewers/readers who find themselves in the centre of the labyrinth can above all find themselves – the more they search, the more they themselves are (co)authors. And support for this search is the main objective of the programme for the role of artist: to discover one’s true and creative self. Just like Mr. Sís does (directly or indirectly) in each of his books.
This educational programme contains various activities, commentaries, discussions, and contemplations within the exhibition, along with a final review. Individual parts of the programme are naturally balanced and adapted to the age of the group.
