PROGRAMME: Truth or Lie?

18. 10. 2018 - 4. 2. 2019

An educational programme for the WELCOME TO HARD TIMES exhibition.

Has everyday reality ever seemed like theatre or a computer game to you? Or perhaps you felt as if you were part of some script or (computer) program? Did you ever find yourself in a moment when it was virtually impossible to distinguish reality from fiction? How do we comprehend the world around us? Can we find our way around in it and understand it? The times are accelerating, and our attention is constantly being distracted by new stimuli. Our consciousness has to be alert – data is multiplying and untruth is receiving more opportunities. It is disguising itself in words and images that we know intimately and that we understand as a matter of course.

This educational format entitled PROGRAMME explores the various forms of manipulation we are subjected to in the contemporary world. The WELCOME TO HARD TIMES exhibition will serve as our medium, through which we can think about what is FAKE NEWS, where we encounter it, and why we have to pay attention to it. Alternative facts seduced us, and gain our trust with ease.

The objective if this educational programme is to let students experience the difference between the ability to manipulate the contents of a photograph and how photographs can manipulate us. The initial presentation focused on this topic in connection with advertising will be supplemented with a tour of the exhibition and a workshop in which students will search for the line between truth and untruth, or more precisely, a lie.

We recommend inclusion of the programme in media studies, social studies, art, Czech, or history classes
