Bodies on the Line

18 Oct 2018 – 4 Feb 2019

An educational programme from the ROLE(S) IN ART course catalogue offering to accompany the WELCOME TO HARD TIMES exhibition.

the “artist” role

What does it mean to put your “body on the line”? Why address topics large and small through works of contemporary art and installations? In this exhibition project by Dutch artist, curator, and designer Eric Kessels, the gallery space is transformed into a gym, and the exhibition and educational programme alike will gradually force you to leave your comfort zone and experience art with your body – a warm-up for both body and mind, which can also benefit all of society.

In the programme, we search for the meaning of words such as “freedom”, “courage”, and “involvement”. Thanks to an unconventional tour of the exhibition, we also go more in-depth and collect material for our own “artistic” expression, a final performance. What will you say about the present day and your world? Come put your body on the line. After this exercise you will feel full of energy and information, and will perhaps be more willing to perceive what is going on around us.

The educational programme contains various activities, discussions, and contemplations about the exhibition, and a final performance with feedback. The individual parts of the programme are naturally balanced and adjusted to the group’s age range.

We recommend inclusion of the programme in media studies, social studies, art, Czech, or history classes
