Ekoglass 2011

We present work by the eleven best Czech and Polish glass artists, made during the 4th annual creative workshops held in July 2011 on the Czech-Polish border at Szklarska Poręba (PL) and Desn· (CZ). Ecology – recycling glass-making material – is an important aspect of this open-air festival where these works were created. Waste glass has a practically unlimited biodegradability period, so reusing it as a raw material is both a challenge and a necessity. The idea of holding a glass festival in traditional glass-making centres on either side of the Czech-Polish border in the Krkonoše and Jizera Mountains dates from 2008.

Thanks to its international scope, Ekoglass is a unique opportunity to develop this art and for artists, glassmakers and technologists from Poland and the Czech Republic to share their experience. Another important aspect of this festival is the direct confrontation between younger artists and more experienced designers and teachers.
Today it is one of the most important festivals of its kind in Europe, and its goal is the exchange of knowledge and experience, especially concerning art but also in technology and education, and it is the outcome of many years of Polish and Czech cooperation.
