R200 NON-FICTION

16 Apr – 11 May 2015

Making and designing a car is not the same as making a work of art. The car designer has to work with what is available. The artist works with ideas. A close study of a car says so much about the way we live, about the way we make things, and about ourselves. It is not art, but it is the highest achievement of design, an artefact that has a greater concentration of design talent per square inch than anything else.

Petr Novague, the winner of a number of prestigious international design awards, and Marek Hoffmann, CEO of Kovovýroba Hoffmann, decided to join forces, and inspired by a legendary Czechoslovak automobile Skoda 130 RS, created the “R-car of the 21st Century”. The R200 Non-Fiction installation will present a new automobile that is the result of the merger of exceptional design, precise workmanship, tenaciousness, and unsentimental enthusiasm.

Prominent Czech photographer Antonín Kratochvíl documented the creation of this new classic in a series of black and white photos.

Petr Novague is one of the most respected Czech designers. He graduated from the field of product design at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, and also studied design at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany and the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. He is the recipient of prestigious international design awards, such as Red Dot or the IF Design Award.
