Read For Rights

6 Sep 2017, 11:00 AM

On 6 September visitors are invited to come to the Gulliver Airship and join us in reading and discussing  the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Charter 08 in honour of the recently diceased writer, human rights activist and Nobel peace laureate Liu Xiaobo. (In 2014 DOX presented a photography exhibition by Liu Xia, Liu Xiaobo´s wife, who has been kept under house arrest since 2008).

This event is organized by DOX in cooperation with Amnesty International Prague as part of the Worldwide Reading initiative by International Literary Festival Berlin.
It aims to reignite the spirit of the Declaration and to remind people of “a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations, to the end that every individual and every organ of society, keeping [...] this Declaration constantly in mind, shall strive to promote the teaching and education, respect for these rights and these freedoms and by progressive measures, national and international character, the universal and effective recognition and observance, both among the peoples of Member States themselves and between those territories under their jurisdiction.“ (Resolution 217 A (III), 10 December 1948).
Anybody can come and join the reading and discussions, which will take place throughout the day from 11AM to 7PM. Texts of both the documents will be available in Czech and English.
