Veronika Zýková created several works for the Polička/Shelf gallery space, transferring her usually large-format abstractions onto the surface of children's picture books. In addition to abstractions created with spray paint, the exhibition also features colorful drawings made with markers. Veronika makes no secret of her admiration for painter and illustrator Stanislav Holý, whose work inspires her drawings. The exhibition also includes her poems and comic strips, whose heroes, simple geometric shapes, deal with complex human situations.
The author most often works with acrylic paints, sprays and markers, which she applies to the backs of posters and papers intended primarily for recycling. She describes her creative process as calming, with therapeutic significance, guided mainly by her current personal state of mind and methodical work with randomness and imperfections. In her words, the result of her work is often unpredictable.
Veronika Zýková (1984) graduated in Czech studies and film and theater studies in Olomouc. Under the pseudonym Lhostej, she published poems and artwork on the website Totem.cz. Her poems have been published in the magazines Těžkoříct and Host, in the anthologies Názvuky (13th edition of Ortenova Kutná Hora) and Pavučina slov (a selection of the best texts published online). In March 2024, she had an exhibition at the Nibiru Gallery in Ostrava, and from September 2024 to February 2025, her work was displayed at the “bytovka” exhibition in Soňa Pokorná's apartment in Prague.
