You can clearly see that Viktorie Langer revels in working with color, in observing and sensing how pigments physically flow, soak into materials, and leave their traces. One could almost wish to drown in the layers of paint. Viktorie’s pleasure in creation contradicts the stereotype opinion of poseurs that art must arise from personal suffering that reflects agony of the world although the issues she managed in paintings are often far from rosy. Her work is trained but natural. An intuitive forgetting of herself enable her dissolve into the process and create something genuinely new, unrepeatable, because there is no utilitarian intent behind the creative process, no three-phase task to “create, exhibit, sell.” At the Polička/Shelf, she presents for the very first time an interview with the painteress Jitka Válová, originally created at her artistic beginnings as a high school project. From this initial correspondence and the subsequent personal meeting, Langer not only carried away a spontaneously conducted dialogue but also an experience that encouraged her further artistic course. A large textile fabric covering an entire wall is a conceptual counterpoint, a work by a mature artist, created only a few weeks before this exhibition. The strong inner imagination, which one might intuitively associate with smaller formats, is here developed by on surprisingly large, energy radiating surfaces.
Viktorie Langer Valocká (1988) studied in Vladimír Skrepl's studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and was a finalist for the Jindřich Chalupecký Award (2017) and the Oskar Čepan Award four years later. Her work reflects her experiences from study trips to Spain, the Netherlands, and Greece. She creates her works in Úholičky near Prague. She has found a temporary home with her family in Sicily, where she takes her easily transportable textile works. In 2025, Viktorie launched the online platform Initiations by Artists / Unusual Experiences: InitiationsByArtists.org. Here you can choose and complete an initiation experience with a specific artist in various ranges, durations, and prices.
