Contemporary music performed by the BERG Orchestra.
The season finale of this prominent Czech ensemble features works that reflect on the past, confronting personal memories with “great history”. Julia Wolfe witnessed the collapse of the World Trade Center towers with her two young children just two blocks away… When a wave of strikes swept through Great Britain in 1979—garbage piled up in the streets, there was no one to bury the dead, and so on—Joanna Bailie was five years old, and it was then that she first realized something important was happening. Both have put their memories into music. The opening solo piece by Alexandra Vrebalov, which transforms an old Bach suite into something new, showcases BERG Orchestra's viola player Kateřina Lískovcová. Internationally acclaimed British composer Joanna Bailie is coming to Prague and will attend the Czech premiere of her work in person.
Programme:
Aleksandra Vrebalov – Spell no. 7 (Czech premiere)
Julia Wolfe – Big Beautiful Dark and Scary (Czech premiere)
Joanna Bailie – 1979 (Czech premiere)
Kateřina Lískovcová – viola
BERG Orchestra & Peter Vrábel – conductor
