Saxophonist and composer Marcel Bárta and keyboardist, pianist, and composer Jakub Zitko have been musical companions for over twenty years in the experimental jazz band Muff and many other projects. Now both will perform alongside the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. Jakub Zitko has surrounded himself with great instrumentalists for this concert opportunity with PRSO and has invited as special guests two prominent artists of the contemporary music scene, Aneta Langerová and Dorota Barová, to bring his songs to life with their voices.
In their music, both composers combine postmodern jazz, contemporary classical music, alternative music, and fresh techniques and musical textures. Marcel Bárta utilizes elements of aleatorics and controlled improvisation in the form of sound-coloured surfaces. Jakub Zitko, on the other hand, uses electronic sounds and samples that organically complete the musical atmosphere or directly carry the meaning of the composition. Both composers are also unique melodists, authors of distinctive and atypical melodic themes, as well as dense harmonies that break out of the usual categories of jazz or classical music. Their work additionally carries within it various emotions, energy, melancholy, psychedelia and even humour. All this is reflected in their compositions for Muff, NUO, Vertigo, and other groups. They now transfer all these ingredients to the instrumentation of a large symphony orchestra, promising truly original music, both composed and improvised, with many surprising twists and turns of dynamics, tectonics, and form.
