The exhibition Prometheus (Προμηθέας) by sculptor Marek Škubal (*1986) will present the artist’s work over the last three years. Although Škubal has participated in several important group exhibitions during this time, such as Vanitas at DOX (2021) or Alone in the Crowd at GASK (2022), he devoted his full attention to this exhibition. The majority of the works will thus be exhibited for the first time, including a large body of watercolour drawings. Marek Škubal has long found themes in the past, or rather, he is interested in timeless subjects. The form of his sculptures also refers to the history of art, especially to the morphology of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. His works can therefore seem like they were created more than a century ago. This apparent outdatedness and disinterest in contemporary trends and fashions is one of the main characteristics of Škubal’s artistic attitude. The exhibition is divided into three units: Dreaming, Vanitas and Myths. The exhibition culminates in the monumental sculpture Prometheus, providing the title for the entire show.
