The opening concert of the Music is festival will be given by the top French ensemble Les Percussions de Strasbourg on Thursday the 10th of October in the DOX+ multifunctional hall. The ensemble will appear once again in Prague after 37 long years. They will present "Eight Inventions" and "Eight Ricercari" by Miloslav Kabeláč. Both pieces were commissioned by the ensemble.
"Eight Inventions" was written by Kabeláč in 1962 and is one of his most famous works. After the extraordinary success of the cycle, he composed another cycle "Eight Ricercari" at the request of the ensemble. Kabeláč's "Eight Inventions" and the more recent "Eight Ricercari" will be performed at the concert together with works by Iannis Xenakis and Ondřej Adámek. The international ensemble will demonstrate to what extent music for percussion can be created and experienced in the 21st century. Founded in 1962, Les Percussions de Strasbourg is one of the most important musical groups thanks to its exceptional repertoire. In addition to new commissioned works, it also performs masterpieces of the 20th and 21st centuries.
This autumn, the Music is festival will offer concerts of classical, electronic and jazz music. The theme of this year's season explores the fascinating world of percussion. The Music is festival is a direct successor to the American Spring Festival, which was first held in 2006. Its main idea is to celebrate music and present it in its diversity, not just as a form of entertainment, but as a means of inspiration and discovery of ourselves and the world around us.
