Spellbound Contemporary Ballet is a leading Italian contemporary dance company. It works under the direction of choreographer Mauro Astolfi and producer Valentina Marini. It is characterized by dynamic and mesmerizing movement expressions. It has been called the Italian “ferrari of movement”.
Spellbound Contemporary Ballet has represented Italy on many continents on hundreds of stages and festivals around the world. This year it celebrated its thirtieth anniversary.

If You Were a Man (men’s quartet)
If the sounds made by movement and breathing could be deciphered in time, many things could be avoided... We are always talking inaudibly to each other, giving signals with our bodies. Even small sounds or gestures can be an early warning. Before a conflict? If You Were a Man is a study for four men on how we listen to each other.

Choreographer: Mauro Astolfi
Performers: Filippo Arlenghi, Lorenzo Beneventano, Roberto Pontieri, Alessandro Piergentili
Music: AAVV
Lighting design: Marco Policastro
Costumes: Anna Coluccia

Unknown Woman (woman solo)
Unknown Woman is a kaleidoscope of cycling memories and thoughts captured in a diary and translated into movement. How do we actually observe another person, how can we understand them? With the eyes, with the heart? What are only our perceptions and what can we learn about the other? We think we have come to know each other well over the years, but we observe each other as strangers constantly walking side by side.

Spellbound is supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture, which recognized the institute in 2022 as the National Dance Production Centre, under the umbrella of Orbita/Spellbound resuming the production activities and programme in the city of Rome; its programme is developed in three venues across the capital, giving birth to the very first official dance season of Rome.

“An artful evening of extraordinary dancing.” – Susan Fulks, Palm Beach Daily News, U.S.A.
"Dancers of such chameleon-like suppleness, they were not only spellbinding, but breathtaking.” – Merilyn Jackson, The Philadelphia Inquirer, U.S.A.
“The troupe has an alien beauty to its movement that has become the touchstone of reputable contemporary dance. The performers are magnificent in appearance, and their technique is remarkable.” – Susan Fulks, Palm Beach Daily News, U.S.A.
