Orchestral works by Iannis Xenakis
The Essential Xenakis concert will be played by ONO – Ostrava New Orchestra, an international young people’s symphony orchestra founded in 2017 for the Ostrava Days festival, and motivated by the need to interpret contemporary music. The orchestra includes young Czech musicians who are thus given a unique opportunity to work with their foreign colleagues in the area of contemporary music.
The concert featuring compositions by a single composer, will once again be a unique feat, supported by virtuoso performances by soloists from abroad. We will present orchestral compositions by one of Europe’s most important and influential composers of the second half of the twentieth century (and architect), Iannis Xenakis: three of his important orchestral works that are being played in Prague for the first time.
The ONO Orchestra will consist of young musicians (18-30 years of age) from the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, and Romania.

The unique production combines a physical theatre performance with live music and a film starring child actors of Farm in the Cave studio to communicate an urgent, yet widely overlooked, topic – the online radicalisation of youth. The performers' dynamic movement, the pulse of live music, and disturbing images together create an unusual insight into the digital darkness that most of us are – perhaps intentionally – unaware of.
