Topics: social networks, targeted advertising, personal information

The internet changed the world of advertising. It has become even more omnipresent, but not only that. It is increasingly more difficult for us to distinguish what is and isn’t advertising. Services that we used to pay for (for example printed newspapers) are not available free of charge. Content creators are therefore searching for various ways of making money.

We’ve become used to what’s free quite quickly. And this is precisely the start of our workshop, which is supposed to force us to think about what it means to get something for free. What about emails, websites, blogs, vlogs, photo albums, or other things; are they really free? If we don’t pay money for something, does it mean we don’t pay for it at all? Can we pay with something else? Can this currency be our personal information? Instead of using a card in a shop, would it be realistic for us to pay using our profile from social networks – i.e. with all our posts, sharing, and browsing history? How much do the internet and social networks know about us? And what do we know about them?

This educational programme is adapted to the group’s age and contains discussions, exhibition-related activities, and a closing workshop.
