An educational programme for schools from The Role of Art / Roles in Art set of programmes
the “architect” role
Every place, every building affects us. The fact that often we aren’t even aware of it is another issue. How do we perceive the building we’re in right now? Once upon a time it was an old, abandoned factory, now it is an exclusive gallery. An architect is given a task: create a space where manipulation is possible; with works of art as well as with the audience - a space that can take on various appearances. Which way will he let visitors stream in, which way light? What material will he pick? And what shape can in time become an irreplaceable symbol of the city? We will embark together on an interesting journey through selected gems of (not only gallery) architecture. Like in the case of DOX, they will be cases of “recycling”. And if we will be able to critically assess various details of this building, we will get space to “recycle’ in creating our own vision – space for manipulation.
