The 3rd anniversary of Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement and the 33rd anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre in Beijing will be commemorated by the Truth Prevails project, which is run under the auspices of the Hong Kong NGO DEI.
In collaboration with DOX Centre for Contemporary Art and Sinopsis, the project will be launched on 4 June 2022, the day of commemoration of the anti-government protests. It will include, among other things, the erection of Danish artist Jens Galschiøt’s famous sculpture Pillar of Shame, a commemoration of the victims of the Square of Heavenly Peace (Tiananmen) massacre. This will be followed by a panel discussion entitled Pillar of Shame for Hong Kong and China with experts such as sinologist Prof. Olga Lomová, Uyghur lawyer Nury Turkel, former exiled Tibetan Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay and Hong Kong political activist Finn Lau, among others.
The event is open to the public for a symbolic CZK 89 admission fee, and includes the ongoing exhibition MADe IN CHINA by Chinese exile artist and dissident Badiucao, whose work deals with the Tiananmen Square massacre and the Hong Kong protests, among other issues.
